Unusual Christmas Gifts

December 2, 2008 by Life in the Highlands

Are you wondering what to get your kids for Christmas this year? Tired of getting them the same old mp3 players and cell phones and game stations? Well, I can help. I’ll share some unusual “must haves” from my kids’ lists, and maybe that’ll give you an idea of what to buy for your children. (I’ll only include the highlights, though, because I only have 3 gig of space on the blog before I have to pay for an upgrade.)

My 14 year old son’s list:

  • a kitten-not Siamese or Calico. Orange preferably.
  • a money tree
  • peppermint ice cream
  • money–just give me 30 dollars in a big box
  • good board games like the winners for the year of best game and such
  • my own box of Otterpops

My 12 year old daughter’s list:

  • kitten/puppy
  • bigger bed
  • ceiling fan
  • candy
  • money
  • Twilight tickets
  • Twilight series
  • Sprite
  • laptop
  • hair stuff
  • cruise (go on)
  • new digital camera
  • new sister

My 8 year old daughter’s list:

  • candy
  • money
  • cat
  • new bed
  • silling fan
  • new room
  • dance lessons
  • swimming lessons
  • piano lessons
  • tennis lessons
  • gift card for Walmart
  • Target gift card
  • presents
  • new sister pop

I hope these lists helped you as much as they always help me. Just don’t blame me if your kids are unhappy when they open up their presents while sitting in a pool of melted peppermint ice cream. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to do some shopping. That 40% off sale on new sisters won’t last forever.

Wow, I never knew they had new sisters on sale. I would have totally asked for that as a kid. In fact, I may still be interested…..just kidding…..sort of.

I would have loved to have a sister…

Loved the Otter Pops request…I can imagine the blue lips already!

You know they really do have a plant called a money tree. (I’m new to your blog…discovered you through Rocks in My Dryer WFMW…so if you knew that, please forgive me.) It’s a small, hearty little tree. (small…as in a table top plant) And it’s a cool looking plant…the tree trunk is twisted. Anyways, we have one. It’s currently the only plant in the house. And I’ve managed to keep it alive. Which is a big deal. Not sure that your kiddo really meant the plant. But wouldn’t that be funny. :)

Just in case you want to see what a money tree plant looks like…

Melissa: Your secret is safe with me. (And the other two people who read my blog.)

Lainie: My kids are obsessed with Otterpops. Even in the winter. In fact, when my 16 year old saw that on the 14 year olds’ list, he said, “I want my own box, too.”

Milissa: I am so looking into that money tree.

I’m actually going to try to make Peppermint ice cream! I found some cream on sale (half price, yay!), so I figured I’d tweak a recipe for vanilla and add some crushed candy canes. You can actually find it in the stores, too, just for the season. Candy Cane ice cream is yummy!
A cruise sounds nice…like a nice dream, LOL!
But piano lessons, if you can swing them, will pay back for years to come!

I love your family’s lists. It’s always surprising to me when I ask my family to tell me what they want, what traditions they enjoy, what are their three favorite meals, etc. I’m in my own little world half the time and it’s always a lovely surprise to hear about what goes on in the heads of the rest of the family. Thanks for your post :)
