Everyone at my house is upset about the election results. So is everyone in the whole world. I know this because my 17 year old told me that everyone on Facebook (i.e. the whole world) is upset.
Okay, so those are only his friends he is talking about, but he has a lot of friends. So, that’s basically everyone. Many of them are talking about moving to Canada. I don’t know how they are going to convince their parents to find new jobs, sell their houses, and move, but, hey, let’s not underestimate the resourcefulness of 16 and 17 year olds.
I should be upset, too. But I’m not. I already suspected the outcome. Once the economy tanked, McCain didn’t stand a chance. Because it’s all about the economy. It’s always about the economy.
But I voted, knowing a Utah vote doesn’t count for anything because if it did, Mitt Romney would be president. Or Donny and Marie.
So whether you are upset or jubilant about the outcome of the election, I’d just like to share with you a little story:
A few weeks ago we had multi-colored pasta (also known as “Wacky Mac”) for dinner. As my 17 year old son was scooping it onto his plate, he said, “You know, we learned in Foods Class that these noodles are all the same. They just dye them different colors.” He paused. “It’s just like people. Different on the outside–but on the inside, we’re all the same.”
The moral of the story: now that this election is over, it is time for us to put it behind us and come together as a nation.
But first, I have to find my kids.
I think they went to Canada.

For a second, I was hoping that by Life in the Highlands, you meant Scotland. I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland.
And Canada. And yes, we were tempted to follow your kids. But the prophets have constantly told us that Zion is here in the US, which is hard to believe after last night.
I agree with you. Even though Mitt would have been the hot-doggest, bestest president evern, it’s time to put our differences aside and heal this nation. And, strangely, I agree with Obama when he said in his speech, “it’s going to take more than a year; it may take more than a term” to do so.
It’s going to take a millenium.
Anyway, thanks for the fun post. Helped me cheer right up.
I to am a little upset of the out come of the election. Also I think your 17 yr old son is right. We are different on the outside and the same in the inside. I hope that we can come together as a nation and i also hope and pray that Obama does the right thing for our country. My husband said last night that the scriptures talk about all of this happening before the millienium. I really like your blogs.
haha!! I love it!!
Nobody has the same insides as me, I was born with eleven kidneys.
I thought about moving to Mexico. Cheaper food and I can get back across in 4 years. Might have a little trouble after Canada gets all our Teenage boys.
I haven’t checked facebook yet, so it’s good to know that the whole world is upset. I wasn’t too thrilled upon finding out myself. Although I do really love your wacky mac analogy – it is so very very true.
And I doubt that Mary has 11 kidneys (because who would keep those things? I would totally be selling them on the black market for some major cash.)
A lot of people I know is jubilant, even in my Facebook. I spent the whole day listening to BBC Radio and the rest of the world is ecstatic. And Canada, they’re socialist, you know. Check their laws. If this United States don’t work, there’s nowhere left to go. Let’s stay and make it better place.
