Trying to find the perfect domain name can be difficult. When I was looking for a name for my blog, I knew I wanted something short, witty, easy to spell, and memorable. Unfortunately, everything is taken. And I do mean EVERYTHING. Go ahead and try it–everything.com is already registered. (There’s a great domain checker on www.iwebtool.com/instant/ .) Also taken: whatever.com, information.com, goodpoint.com, and just about every word in the thesaurus that I read cover to cover. I spent hours plugging words into the domain checker, trying to find something that was still available.
Fortunately, you can benefit from my harrowing experience. Here are some tips to make your search for a domain name a little easier:
1.) Choose a long name that no one can spell. For instance, try supercalafragalisticexpealadotious. (Well, that one is already registered. But if you misspell it-supercalafragalisticexpealodotious, it is yours!) Sure, no one will be able to get to your website because they will always mistype it, but at least you’ll have your very own domain name.
2.) Put two long words together. These should also be words that are difficult to spell, or at least a pain to type. If not, someone else will already have registered them. For instance, try parentheticalexpressions.com or unwaveringexaggerator.com. Both are available. Unbelievable, I know.
3.) Use a complete sentence. For this, you could ask your kids for help. Mine came up with such classics as yoursonshairistoolong.com, myopinionmattersnotyours.com, and yourfeetreallystink.com. Feel free to use any of those–compliments of the house. I won’t even charge you a finder’s fee.
I hope this helps in your quest for a domain name. If not, I offer a full refund of your money. No questions asked. (Yes, noquestionsasked.com is already taken. I checked.)

What no hat tip to someone so wonderful that they can just come up with the perfect domain name for someone else just off the top of their head?
Love the site!
Okay. Here’s one more way to help you choose a domain name:
4.) Ask a really cool friend (or relative) to come up with something, which she mentions as a joke, and it turns out to be the best suggestion of all.
